Simple in appearance, the Mercado Maguey Tote is actually a meticulously crafted piece of art steeped in history and hand-crafted using age-old textile traditions of Mesoamerica.

Creating a single bag takes an artisan two weeks to complete as maguey, or agave plant fiber, is stripped from the agave leaf with a machete, spun into cord on the thigh of the artisan, and expertly woven in a strong mesh by hand using traditional processes that have been passed down through generations.
