Candle Care

We started making candles because we are candle lovers ourselves! We strive to make the absolute best candles we possibly can using the most sustainable and eco-friendly materials available. After years of research and having burned through lots and lots and lots of candles, we’ve learned a few things.

For optimal candle use and enjoyment we suggest the following:

Always trim wicks to a ¼” before each burn to avoid overheating, smoking, and wick build up. Once the flame is extinguished make sure the wick is upright and centered. Keep wax clear of any debris that might have fallen in.

The first burn of any candle is very important as this sets the quality for future burns. Did you know wax holds a memory of previous burns? Crazy but true! The first burn should be long enough for the entire top layer of wax to melt and liquify- you want a full melt pool from the candle’s center to the vessel’s edge, otherwise you’ll get tunneling… not a good look.

Refrain from burning candles for longer than 4 hours at a time.

Never leave a candle burning unattended. Keep lit candles away from drafts and flammable materials. Keep candles out of reach of children and pets. Always protect the surface on which a lit candle sits and make sure it is sturdy and stable.

Never burn a candle when there is less than ¼” of wax left at the base. We highly encourage you to recycle and repurpose our vessels. Simply wash out any remaining wax with warm water and dish soap (something that cuts through grease is ideal), remove the wick, and give your candle a wonderful second life.

We hope you enjoy your Oeste candle as much as we enjoyed making it for you.
