Event: Crafting Light- A Two Part Ceramic Vessel and Candle Making Workshop
Good apart, better together…
Join us for a hands-on two part workshop experience where you'll dive into the art of crafting ceramic vessels AND aromatic candles in a unique opportunity to explore and combine two timeless crafts.
At the end of the two workshop sessions you will have an 8oz custom hand-poured scented candle housed within a hand-built ceramic vessel, all made by your own two hands!
Part 1: Ceramic Vessel Building on Saturday February 24th led by Marlon Marinero
Ceramicist Marinero will guide participants through the basics of working with clay and using pottery tools and techniques to shape and mold their vessel into the perfect house for their candle. You’ll have the opportunity to use stamps, molds, and various tools to customize your vessel’s appearance. Marinero will fire participants’ vessels so they are ready to be filled at the next session.
Part 2: Scented Candle Making on March 3rd led by Naomi Castillo of Oeste
Castillo will take you step-by-step through the basics of the candle making process from scent exploration, assembly, and hand pouring into your ceramic vessel. You’ll have the opportunity to smell and test a selection of fragrance and essential oils to create your own special custom scent. Best of all? You’ll go home with your ceramic scented candle creation that very day!

About Marlon Marinero:
Marinero is a multi-disciplinary artist from East Los Angels. He founded his ceramics studio, MM, in 2016 creating custom home goods and sculptural artwork. In addition to his own practice, Marinero is a skilled ceramics instructor, serving students both one on one and in large class settings since 2019.
About Oeste:
Oeste was founded by Los Angeles native and design enthusiast Naomi Castillo in 2017 while Castillo lived in New York City as a project to combat homesickness, distilling memories of people and places through scent and also to celebrate the beauty of her Central American heritage and Latinx culture, which she found was often ignored in design.
In the fall of 2022 Oeste opened a brick and mortar retail and events space in East LA offering a curated selection of found artisanal goods from designers and makers across the Latin American diaspora along with Oeste’s own line of hand-poured aromatic candles.
